Sophie Ballmer and Tarik Hayward are an artist couple living in the Vallée de Joux. Together, they have developed a hybrid practice rooted in their daily lives and their ever-changing home, addressing social, territorial and ecological issues. With love and a critical eye, they explore the tensions of living together, the family unit and our relationship with the environment. Their work was recognised with a Swiss Art Award in 2024.

Offset plates and reclaimed building materials, variable dimensions

The sculpture is made up of offset plates sourced from local printing works – technical surfaces intended for the reproduction of economic, political and personal narratives. Distorted by a DIY machine, they become corrugated sheets, similar to those used to clad vernacular utilitarian architecture. At first glance, the wall appears to be a stable and rational structure. But as one approaches it, its surface becomes distorted, revealing a latent instability that echoes this
